Today i got the most amazing opportunity to volunteer at the Big Cat Sanctuary’s 1st sensory open day. The BCS is celebrating their 25th year this year.

The sensory day was well thought out for the needs of those attending, and equally well received by visitors.

‘I’m Coming Home’

It was so lovely to be back there, I instantly felt at home. And it was wonderful to see all the beautiful majestic cats and what they represent.

Every time I rock up to this place, something in me says on a visceral level, “I am home”. I am not sure if it is the cats, the space, the energy, or a medley of all of it – personally, I feel it is all of it. From the minute my feet landed on their turf many years ago for an interview, it has felt like a supercharged spiritual nexus for me, a space where I truly feel I’ve come home.

Thanks go to Kirstie Reynolds, Emma and Faye for guiding me when i got there , and to Alison, Paola, Adam and the rest of the team for making me feel so welcome and comfortable. Great day promoting the work this incredible Sanctuary does and I hope it won’t be my last time volunteering in some capacity there.

Wishing You Could Be There?

Did you know for as little as the price of one bought coffee a month, you could become a Member. There are member open days to attend (payable and worth every penny) and you are helping to conserve these amazing species and learn more about them and the work the Sanctuary does to help them!

Or you could even submit an application to volunteer and help them in the way you can. The volunteering application is on their website: The Big Cat Sanctuary – Exclusive Safari Experiences & Overnight Stays

Catching Up with the Director of Cats and Conservation

As usual, Giles was there for the open days, so on my lunch i got to have a quick catch up chat and selfie and to tell him why for me personally it is such a magical place and sparked my training in 1 particular modality.

More about that chat later!!

Immense Gratitude

I feel incredibly lucky to have been there today, to give back, to see the cats and offer a ‘good morning’ to those we saw. It felt so right to be there, helping the team spread the message.

Rain came in about 3pm so I ended up completely soaked right through (considered driving home in bra and pants, but decided drivers weren’t ready) and bits of sand everywhere lol but it was worth every drop of rain.

A hot bath and completely relaxing that evening were the ticket. In fact, it took me about 2 days to fully recover (due to my own health conditions) but I am so lucky to have been accepted to volunteer on their very first sensory open day.
