Did you know there is only one dedicated goat sanctuary currently in the UK?

That’s right, and yesterday we paid them a visit.

Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats, Maidstone, Kent.

Such wonderful weather to be able to sit in an enclosed natural space with them milling around us.

It’s very well organised. The goats with red collars on can be a bit ‘feisty’.

The ones with purple collars are on a special diet and must not therefore be fed.

Some collars have ‘adopt me’ on for people to pay £20 a year to ‘adopt’ that particular goat and contribute to their care.

I got to meet just some of the wonderful people helping with their care and chat about their past and present. Shout out to Hayley and Jordan who were my educators.

Most of these goats have come from neglect or abuse, been abandoned or made homeless. With that history come symptoms like stress or anxiety, PTSD, medical conditions, mistrust in humans, and more.

For £1 a bag, we got to feed these lovelies carrots. For your own safety, this is done behind a fence so you are not bombarded by goats keen to munch on the lovely fresh food!

They all have their own characters and it is touching as you wander round and hear about some of their histories.

For instance, there were two beautiful little kids who lost their Mum at only 3 weeks old from cancer, and who the Sanctuary has raised ever since. They are still grieving.

I was thoroughly chilled out on my departure having spent nearly 3hours just chilling with the goats, some sitting around our bench under the tree.

I learnt some information about goats yesterday from my friend who came with me, and from the Sanctuary. Always good to onboard knowledge.

I will definitely be visiting again.

If you are curious, they have an open day, this coming Sunday 25th August, here is the event link: https://www.facebook.com/events/431891183216442
